KEVIN WRIGHT MEMORIAL CUP SEMI - FINAL
BRICKFIELD RANGERS UNDER 15 3 - 2 aet COEDPOETH UNDER 16
A very entertaining game which had everything. Bricky got to terms with a big physical side early on although Coedpoeth had the first chance when they hit the bar and Aaron Edwards cleared off the line. Coedpoeth scored after 25 minutes when a long ball put the forward clear to score. Bricky hit back when a poor back pass was pounced on by Liam Sklenar to round the keeper and score. Charlie Burns almost scored but his long shot hit the bar and Sklenar had a goal disallowed with Lewis Jones in an offside position. Second half and once again Bricky looked dangerous. After an hour Sklenar grabbed his second with a neat finish into the far corner. Coedpoeth pulled it back 10 minutes from the end and the match entered extra time. Coming to the end of the first period and Lewis Jones was fouled in the area, he picked himself up but put his spot kick wide. Second period was very nervous with both teams not wanting to make a mistake. Burns hit the bar again and Coedpoeth went close but with time almost up Sklenar crossed from the right and Lewis Jones made amends with a fine volley from 6 yards to win the game and be lost under a ruck of players! A fine advert for youth football with 2 teams who played it the right way and 3 very good officials. Roll on the final at Ponciau Banks on May 16th against Park Youth Under 16. Man of the Match - A very hard choice as everyone played superb but Liam Sklenar for 2 goals, an assist and for the relentless running he did. |
